Here are some of the more popular forms of exercise gear/equipment for you to consider.

Elliptical trainers are one of the more popular types of fitness equipment available. They offer a good overall non-impact aerobic exercise activity.

Exercise bikes mostly work your legs and buttocks. They offer another non-impact, cardiovascular workout.

Treadmills allow you to walk or run indoors at various resistance levels without having to worry about time of day, weather, or high impact to jar your joints that you can experience running out on the pavement.

Rowing machines offer a whole body, aerobic workout. To row you use your upper as well as your lower body.

Cross country ski machines also offer a full body, cardiovascular workout that helps to build up muscle endurance.

Weight resistance equipment consists of free weights such as dumbbells and barbells as well as home gyms or multi weight stations. Weight lifting is a great way to build muscle, strength and stamina.

There are also a wide array of smaller home exercise equipment such as jump ropes, balance balls, stretch bands, kick boxing gear and a whole host of other fitness equipment and gear that can be used in your home gym for working out. Exercise videos can also be an excellent way to help you work out at home.

If you are just starting to set up your home gym or dedicated area for exercise, it may be a good idea to start out with some smaller pieces of inexpensive equipment such as a set of adjustable dumbbells before investing in a larger, more expensive piece of equipment such as a treadmill. That way you can be sure to make full use of all the home exercise equipment that you buy. Of course if you already have extensive experience using fitness equipment at a gym then you may be ready for some major purchases right away.
